The setter’s most important skill is the ability to get to the ball. However, once the setter gets to the ball and is ready to make contact, a quick touch is needed. This can be developed through repetitions emphasizing a quick release. The setter’s mentality should be to deliver a hittable ball (Guiding Principle #2) to their hitters.
As a setter you have to have hustle and desire to go after every ball, whether its been passed right to you or if you have to chase the ball down. During these plays, as the setter, you instruct your hitters on what type of sets they should be prepared to hit. This is called running an offense .
